Weathered Steel House

Connemara, County Galway

This project is for the renovation and extension of a pre-famine rubble stone house on the Atlantic Coast in Connemara. The project takes its cue from the existing rusting corrugated metal roof and the rust stained stone walls and the client’s desire to create a house of minimum enclosure. The existing house is extended lengthways as in the manner of traditional houses and wrapped in a folded plane of roof/wall that opens up to the views over the Atlantic.
